  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine Channels the ’80s for Totally Rad Season 7 Trailer

NBC unveiled a totally awesome promo for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, creating an ’80s-style spot for the sitcom’s upcoming seventh season.

The network released the throwback promo on Thursday for the comedy, which returns for Season 7 on Feb. 13. The washed-out spot seems to be played on a degraded videotape, featuring a period-appropriate NBC logo, ’80s fonts and a grizzled voiceover with lines like, “Now, when the city is thrown into chaos, these two unlikely heroes will have to team up to take down crime and save New York City!” and “Putting away bad guys means putting everything on the line, but that’s just the way it’s done in the Nine-Nine.”

The promo also recapped the big twist from Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Season 6 finale, in which Capt. Raymond Holt, played by Andre Braugher, is demoted for failing to finish his officer training. The promo indicates that he’ll be working with Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), presumably to reclaim his old job.

This is the second time in the past month that a broadcast network has created a throwback promo for its current shows.

In December, ABC aired several ’70s-style promos—for shows like The Good Doctor, The Bachelor and A Million Little Things—during its Live in Front of a Studio Audience telecast.

NBC rescued Brooklyn Nine-Nine in 2018, just days after Fox canceled it. In November, the network renewed the show for Season 8, three months ahead of Season 7’s premiere.
