  • Dropbox CEO Drew Houston Added to Facebook’s Board of Directors

Facebook allowed a chance to diversify its board of directors to fall by the wayside by adding Dropbox co-founder and CEO Drew Houston, a white male.

Houston founded Dropbox in 2007 with Arash Ferdowsi, and the company has grown to 14 million paying subscribers and 2,300 employees across 12 global offices.

He received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Susan Desmond-Hellmann left Facebook’s board last April, but a spokesperson for the company said Houston is not a replacement for Desmond-Hellmann and will not be the lead independent director. Facebook is still looking for a successor to Desmond-Hellmann.

Houston joins: PayPal senior vice president of core markets Peggy Alford, Andreessen Horowitz co-founder and general partner Marc Andreessen, General Catalyst chairman and managing director Kenneth Chenault, chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, Founders Fund co-founder and partner Peter Thiel, Cranemere Group CEO Jeff Zients and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg said in a Newsroom post, “Drew brings valuable perspective to our board as a leader of a technology company with services used by millions of people and businesses. He thinks deeply about where technology is going and how to build a culture that delivers services that always work well.”

Houston added, “It’s been inspiring to watch Facebook grow into a platform that reaches billions of people around the world. I’m looking forward to working with Mark and the rest of the board on the many opportunities and challenges ahead.”
